Experience ‘the best bits’ of Nicaragua on this tailor-made family holiday. Enjoy interacting with a local community when they show you how their traditional weaving is done, have a go at some tortilla-making, and you’ll also have the chance to see the famous pottery workshops of the Masaya region. Take a tour of a coffee plantation to see how the coffee cherries are picked and processed to the world’s favourite bean. See how many of the varied animals and birds you can spot during your time on Ometepe Island or when walking in the cloudforest. End the holiday with a few days of R&R in the beachside region of San Juan del Sur.


DAY 1:

Fly to Managua, via Madrid or the US (other routes available). Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your starting hotel. Welcome to Nicaragua!

DAY 2:

Transfer to the cool highland area of Matagalpa for a 2-night stay. This afternoon enjoy a horseback ride or a guided tour of a coffee plantation.

DAY 3:

Morning excursion to visit a local indigenous community for a demonstration of their weaving traditions and opportunity to have a go yourself. Enjoy a local meal for lunch then back to your lodge for a coffee plantation tour.

DAY 4:

Early-morning bird-watching with an expert guide before your transfer Nicaragua’s university town of Leon. En route stop for a visit at some mud-pots and a demonstration of tortilla-making by a local family.

DAY 5:

Start the day with a walking city tour of León. In the afternoon there’s an opportunity to go dust-boarding on the nearby Cerro Verde Volcano. Great fun for all the family!

DAY 6:

Transfer to Granada, on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. En route visit to the Masaya region – Masaya town & market, Masaya Volcano and pottery making in the Los Pueblos Blancos.

DAY 7:

Morning boat ride around ‘Las Isletas’ – great for spotting wildlife. Afternoon tour of Granada.

DAY 8:

Day at leisure in Granada for you to further explore and enjoy the city.

DAY 9:

Transfer by road and then public ferry to Ometepe Island, an island comprised by the formation of 2 volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua.

DAY 10:

Full-day tour of the island including Charco Verde Nature Reserve, Ojo de Agua and a chance to see some of the island’s pre-Columbian petroglyphs.

DAYS 11-14:

Transfer back to the mainland and down to the coast for some R&R in the San Juan del Sur area.

DAY 15:

Transfer to Managua International Airport for your flight home. Farewell Nicaragua!
